I received my scans from my first roll of film, shot on my Olympus AZ-1! One thing I have to accept while learning film photography is that you will only see your mistakes days or weeks after you took the photograph. No going back to fix your mistakes, we just have to live with it.

Some thoughts now that I’ve looked through the photographs, I took on this roll:
1. I should have paid attention to the lighting.
Most of my shots were taken indoors and are blurry or out of focus – not really what I was going for. I’ll definitely try out a film with higher ISO in the future though.
2. Point 1 could be solved with flash, but it flattens the image.
The photographs turned out alright, but I guess I prefer some shadow in the composition. Using flash loses a lot of personality in the image.
3. It is focussed when there’s a green light in the viewfinder.
Probably a very obvious note to most photographers out there, but I only figured out that if the green light is flashing at me the subject is not in focus or too close. I’m too used to the tiny beep a digital camera will make when the camera is in focus.
I don’t think my first real attempt at film photography is bad at all, but I still have a lot to learn.
